You know your bra size. But, do you know your breasts? Sounds like a funny question, but certain bras styles and features work better for some breasts and not for others.

A non-wire or underwire nursing bra is designed for women who are breastfeeding. It generally has clasp openings at the top of the cup that can be opened with one hand to allow for ease of nursing. They are designed to accommodate a woman’s changing body after childbirth. Likewise, they provide support and comfort at a time when breasts are sensitive and heavy.
Full-coverage maternity bras are usually made of breathable fabrics for the most comfortable wear.
A good nursing maternity bra is a wardrobe essential for breastfeeding moms. Most cotton nursing bras have a clasp that needs only one hand to open and close. There are also crossover styles that are easy to pull down for nursing.
With useful and imaginative features like adhesive strips, low backs, extra seams, and strong wires, an underwire nursing bra can help keep you lifted and in place. In fact, you’ll feel confident and supported knowing that nothing is showing in the back — besides skin.
Most maternity bras have full coverage, which is especially comfortable when breasts are heavy. There are also nursing bras with lower necklines and smooth t-shirt-ready finishes, as well as strapless and sports bra styles. You can easily find maternity styles to suit almost any activity. At HerRoom, you can get a custom-feeling and comfortable bra you can wear all day or night!
Look for front-closure nursing bras with comfort and support features. Cotton nursing bras or those made from other breathable fabrics will allow moisture to dissipate, so it's not trapped against your skin. Wide non-stretchy straps, especially those with cushioning, provide great support and easy shoulder strain.
Look for flexibility in fit, too. Nursing maternity bras with at least three or four closures will be comfortable when your breasts are at their heaviest. They’re also good for wearing later on, especially once your band size decreases.
Due to hormones, weight gain, and many other factors, nursing women often need a bra that’s one cup and one band size larger. That said, your bra size may fluctuate throughout pregnancy so it’s best to measure before you buy.

It’s best to buy a maternity bra when you’re far along in pregnancy — ideally about 36 or 37 weeks. Since your breasts will be enlarging due to hormonal changes, waiting until the last stretch should allow you to get the perfect bra size.
You can go braless if you want. But if you need extra support for your heavy breasts, it might be best to wear a nursing bra underneath your sleepwear. Just make sure to pick a style that fits well and is comfortable to sleep in.
